Hey Guys,
Unfortunately with our last release, and its instability, we were forced to roll back releases. Unfortunately in doing so, it would seem that our notification system has been broken somehow. Our engineers are working on this issue as quickly as possible. We hope to have a patch within the next day, so we can deploy our code and fix the notification system at the same time. Please *bear* with us ;)
Currently all notifications are being queued up so they can be processed as soon as the fix is pushed and verified to be working correctly.
Thank you,

I'm not a Starbucks person, but I have love for the lower U District Starbucks in Seattle.
A) It's flipping cold in Seattle. B) Seattleites are completely incapable of handling winter. C) It's the Monday before finals week at the college literally one block from them, and I'm definitely not the only person pulling a double all-nighter.
They were uncomfortably busy today, but I watched them working while waiting for my drink, and they were just beautifully coordinated with each other. It was like watching some sort of dance.

Last night I received my first FAKE recovery certificate.
I always question anything I get so I as soon as I got the certificate I went to my shift and showed him. He went into the safe and brought a real one and there was a total difference. The color of the real one was a much bright orange than the fake one, which look faded. The couple who had given me the certificate were patient enough when I said we had to check and it would be a second (asking why I couldn't just highlight the paper like a $100 bill and I told her it wasn't the same thing).
Anyway, when we told them it was fake they flipped out and said they got it at a store 20 minutes from here (I know this store, it's sort of in a shady already). I said that we would give them their drink this time and they asked what should they do if the barista hands them a fake certificate? I told them I thought they might've been recycling old certificates at that particular store (even though they're not suppose to) and that we'll give them a call to tell them what she said and to check their certificate supply.
I hate that they still got a free drink. I mean, it's a courtesy to get drink certificates and to rip me a new one simply because "a barista from a bad part of town" gave you this is in no way my fault. I'm sure this is going to be a recurring issue and there are probably a million more fakes out there.
What have you done when receiving a fake recovery slip? Is there anyway of not rewarding crime and not giving them a fake drink?

| Fun in the DT |
[ December 7th, 2009 + 2:26am ] |
So, this is a really short "dumb customer" post, but I had to share these two gems from closing last night.
Cast: ME - Me! DTG: Drive-through guy DTL: Drive-through lady
Incident #1 ME: Oh, sorry sir, this seems to be a Canadian quarter. DTG: What? You don't take that? ME: Uh, no. Just American money here. DTG: That's racism. ME: Uh... is it? DTG: And isn't the currency the same over there anyway? This is ridiculous. ME: Errr.., no, it's a different country. See how the quarter is different from ours? DTG: Fine, whatever. This is ridiculous.
Incident #2 DTL: Hey can you tell me what's in your wild berry smoothie? ME: Well, it's a premade concentrate, so I'm not really sure. I can check the box if you like. DTL: Does it have pomegranate in it? ME: It seems unlikely. We do have a pomegranate-mango smoothie. DTL: Is there pomegranate in that? ME: ... :(
Oh also, since I am forever interested in the differences between Caribou and Starbucks, what do you guys mean when you say "DT bar"? Do you have two separate espresso bars in your DT stores?

| Some icons anyone..? |
[ December 6th, 2009 + 1:41pm ] |
Hi all the awesome baristas! I am a huge fan of this community! I am too young to be one, but I think that the baristas are what makes Starbucks so...cozy and sweet and stuff. I'm not a coffee drinker myself, but I love green tea latte and pretty much all the teas there!;) I'm not really sure if I'm allowed to post some icons here, but if it's wrong, you can delete this post:] So, 15 icons with some Starbucks stuff, i really hope you enjoy them!:)* ( Under the cut... )

Hey guys, can you explain the 'Bux hierarchy to me? Right now I'm at a licensed store so we only have one location manager and a bajillion supervisors. But from your posts I see ASM, SM, DM, and a bunch of other acronyms - what are they?

| Props |
[ September 5th, 2009 + 9:09pm ] |
I just wanted to take a moment and give some props to the awesome Baristas at the 'bux near my work.
Seattle - 4th and Diagonal
-First off, I know this isn't a barista thing, but I love the "green" store. Way to be an awesome store.
-Second, you guys make the best drinks in all of SODO (Probably because of proximity to world HQ)
-Third, you are the nicest baristas I have ever encountered.
-Fourth, you rocked when I came in twice on friday for travelers and probably seemed a little loopy. We were doing inventory and we needed it bad and you didn't even blink, you also didn't try to sell me on via travelers. You seemed unfazed by the extra work of making the coffee for me and were generally enthusiastic about the whole transaction.
I know these are little things but it all ads up. Keep on rocking!

| SCORE! |
[ December 5th, 2009 + 9:40pm ] |
So I scored big time today with Cosplay. *_*
I got:
- Fabrics and little things for my jumpsuit: (The yellowy-orange dance fabric- it is a nice yellow and in the shadows it appears orange just like in the art, fabric for my white shirt, large belt buckels and the white leather, eyelets, and the string!)
- Fabrics and things for Zidane: (Vest and trim, lace, neck ribbon, and belt and boot leather materials.) [I'm going to go get the fur fabric from my local store here tomorrow or something because it is perfect, and that's what we're going with. It looks the most natural.]
And all at Joann's for... $80!! *_*
AND AND~
I scored a gorgeous David's Bridal petticoat at the thrift store that is not too puffy and not too flat for... $14!!!
I am just...
Ah finally.
I get to get stuff for me.

| Belated Halloween Post |
[ December 4th, 2009 + 5:51pm ] |
Naturally, I meant to make this post about a month ago, and forgot. A few days ago, I was cleaning out my phone, found a few choice images and video, and remembered that this post needed to be made.
So...
On the last week of our Via Challenge, my SM got the news that we were in the lead by quite a bit. As a reward, our SM, in her benevolence and magnificence, decided to cancel the dress code for that weekend. We could wear jeans, she said. Shirts, she said. We rejoiced! All was right with the world!
No, she probably didn't actually have any authority to do that. And if Ecosure or our DM, who lives a block away had paid us a visit, there probably would have been issues...
Or. if my SM had realized that that weekend was Halloween weekend, she probably would have not made such a claim. For she did not understand the implications we would draw, the connection we would see between a lack of dress code and Halloween.
But she did make it, they didn't come, and every barista in the store took the cryptic, word-of-mouth news that there'd be no dress code on Halloween weekend as permission to, well...
( My pics, let me show you them. )

| snow+Houston, TX =... |
[ December 4th, 2009 + 3:55pm ] |
snow in Houston, TX equals: +doing our usual entire day's worth of sales by 1pm ($3,000) +making over 100 hot chocolates and countless other hot drinks (HC were just the only ones I bothered to count) +residents of the city and surrounding areas freaking out +various emergency vehicle sirens +squealing tires from the slippery snowy roads and of course: +BARISTAS PLAYING!!!
( Photographic Evidence )
I wish I would have gotten photos of Denise and I getting in the snowball fight. that was epic win! :D Houston baristas: share your snow day stories!

I usually kind of pride myself on sucking it up and coming to work when I'm not feeling well, so I don't completely screw over my coworkers, but here I am at 7 am, with a fever and feeling like I'm going to pass out. The shift on duty has been informed of this and it's clear I feel like shit. There are SEVEN people here and we're all pretty much standing around. WTF? I'm calling in next time.

Does it annoy you when people complain and say your service is slow? Or drinks are taking forever to make?
What's your response to them?
Example: Tonight our bar decided to shoot out 4 second watery espresso shots when we were busy and it took us a while to fix them and get them just right. I had a lady who was waiting at the window and the first thing she says to me is "God, you guys are SLOW tonight." At first I was like "O.o" and than I explained to her that to ensure the quality of her drink, we had to fix the shots on the machine and at the time we only had one bar. I apologized for the wait and she was off but I think I was a bit defensive, like "WTF!? We have like 50 bajillion drinks to make and yours is taking 4 minutes. Calm the f*** down!"
